Coming for the opera?

Are any of you coming to Latitude specifically for the Opera? The Guardian are looking to interview people coming for the Opera, especially if they are coming to a festival for the first time.

Blimey, I can already imagine that article! I'm looking forward to London Sinfonietta but I'm not coming specifically for the opera and am hoping the LS will be performing some of their contemporary classical pieces too... They're bringing George Benjamin's 'Into the Little Hill' though aren't they? Should definitely be very interesting, especially if the sun's out.

I saw the excerpts from Swan Lake last year. It was absolutely packed out by the lake. I think only children on shoulders got a full view!

The opera, as far as I know, is in The Faraway Forest, which will be located where the BBC Radio Arena was last year, down near the Children's Area.

Sharplimbed opera, along with modern rnb and commercial pop music is one of the very few genres i actually dislike. does three count as very few? ..... commercial pop is a very broad genre indeed ...... I doubt that there is a genre of music that I don't like something from.... I used to think I didn't like rap but have found some that I like, same with opera there is some that I like Puccini for example..... So maybe dismissing a whole genre is a bit..... narrow minded? Don't get me wrong - I was that person myself once, and I have to say that some people on here such as Hoppo have got me thinking that I need to listen more to things that I 'think' I may not like, and I have, and it is eye opening - though I still dislike some music which is 'not my taste' it is actually not genres I dislike now, it is just individual pieces of music. This makes my tastes so much broader and going to Latitude so full of possibilities for expanding my music taste and knowledge. Surely there is some Opera you have heard that you like? Or have you just not listened to much?

Opera isn't a genre of music, it's an artform. 'Cheers'
calhudson a tactical rub with the tips of the fingers just below the balls usually eradicates shaking of the tent, and makes for a very interesting fap

I've heard a small amount of opera that is fine, even good, but the vast majority of it, and the theatre productions... All a big bleh imo. And by commercial pop music, I'm talking manufactured rubbish. Yeah, a lot of it sounds different, but there's a huge theme of awful empty lyrics and normally average catchiness. The Smiths are one of my favourite bands, I don't mean that sort of music. And three does count as few when you're a genre nerd like myself.

And yeah, it's an artform, but it is also a specific type of music.

Even some bands don't know what genre their music falls into half the time and then there is the indie music that can cover a multitude of styles. I think that we all have expectations of certain types of music that may be negative or positive. My expectations of Rap and Hip hop were that I would not like it and that it wasn't my thing, but then I heard some that changed my mind (although the vast majority of it I still find really irritating) As for manufactured music I guest you mean the Stock Aitken and Waterman type music and I suppose it has it's place, but I can see what you mean there.

There just isn't really any music that I rule out except those 3, basically. And I include hip hop, all different types of metal, punk, and alternative music generally ranging from the noisier stuff to the poppier stuff. then a variety of world music etc. Plus all the different types of "dance" music including the extreme stuff that no one listens to. There really just isn't much music I dislike.

This isn't by first Latitude by any means and I don't think I'll be seeing any opera at all but I reckon I could still give quite a good interview to The Guardian. Reckon you could sort it out please Annie? Cheers.
