figured i'd start a thread for suggestions for the much loved Joanna Newsom slot from last year. Gonna take a lot to top it i must say.
 
Some of my suggestions would be Beirut, Bonnie Prince Billy or even Bon Iver.

What do we think the chances of Sufjan doing it are then? He hasn't played a UK show in over 5 years and he turned down ATP so I'm not sure he's a fan of the country. Cohen might be a possibility, didn't someone on here say they've heard that he's playing Manchester that week?

I think Sufjan is unlikely......for Latitude anyway, think he'd prefer something smaller and a line-up he'd enjoy himself.

Oh also Leonard Cohen's gig in Liverpool is part of a European Tour. But it's only 4 dates and it seems silly to come all the way to Europe from North America just for 4 gigs...

laura marling or regina spektor would be perfect! regina's voice might grate though if i've had a bit too much cider and not enough sleep the night before...

Tori Amos live is spellbinding. Bit too much of a star to do it, though, despite that star's lustre having lessened somewhat commercially in recent years?

She's supposed to have had an album of her own songs in the same style as Jukebox out last summer, but that trail seems to have gone quiet and she released another covers EP instead.

Thanks for that. Just been listening to Metal Heart (the Jukebox version); what a great song that is.

Welsh and Rawlings would be utterly terrific in that slot.

I agree Gillian Welsh and David Rawlings would be mesmeric in that slot.
 
It's quite a few years since I saw them together but a great combination.
 
There are many many artists that could pull it off and I trust Melvin to find the right one for 2009.
 
 

I do think it should be someone quite different, as Joanna Newsom herself is. I don't know who, though!

The only act I can think of is Apocalyptica.  Heavy Metal Cello at it's best.  However doubtful it is, I would be so excited if they were announced!!

I would have loved Blur to be at Latitude, but surely they wouldn't have done anything but headline - I understand they are getting £1 million for Hyde Park?

I thought I replied to a Joanna Newson 'slot' thread already, but either way I think Laura Marling would be perfect.  I've been listening to her album quite a lot recently and I think I could happily listen to her voice for an hour on a lazy Sunday "morning" at Latitude.

Yeah, you're right. She's listed in the EOTR line-up. Had a look at her myspace site and website, but couldn't find any gigs for July. I remain hopeful.

How about Final Fantasy? someone mentioned him in The Discussion board, thought I'd mention him in the right place.

Also another thought: Explosions In The Sky?
