Well well,
I may be in the usual position of touting a record before Triangle, who appears to be an octopus – but with eight ears rather than legs.
Anyway, the 2012 release in question is ‘Ten$Ion’ by the South-African rap trio dubbed Die Antwoord. Crazy stuff, kids.
It’s worth noting that this record has mustered mixed reviews (including approximately seven thumbs-down from Pichfork, but a deformed-hand’s worth of thumbs-up from The Quietus
http://thequietus.com/articles/08006-die-antwoord-tension-review ). This may be because it ****es over rather a lot of rules, and is often tastelessly crass.
Well, I like it.
Its vibrant upbeat, err, beats – by turns reminiscent of the Ibiza dance-offs and the variety of hardcore porn reserved for the filthy old ****er in the purpose-built, reinforced mackintosh – work nicely with the tainted-mouthed patois.
Not sure I’ll still be listening to it come December’s big reckoning – though I’m yet to sort out 2011’s Baker’s dozen – but it’s certainly worth a spin. Perhaps a perfect fit for Thomas and Hoppo – at his most pervy.
Die Antwoord – TEN$ION 2012, eh? I have now heard twelve long-playing records; here they are in current order of preference:
6)
Evolve or be extinct by Wiley
5)
Let’s go eat the factory by Guided by Voices
4)
Ten$Ion by Die Antwoord
3)
Plumb by Field Music
2)
Land lines by Starving Weirdos
1)
Paralytic Stalks by Of Montreal (I even bought this one: though I was grievously disappointed by the packaging – Barnes really spoiled us with
Skeletal Lamping, one of the most beautiful albums both internally and externally – it is a flipping fantastic record. What is you updated verdict, Triangle?)
Right, I am off to lampoon further 2012 releases.
