what BIG HITTERS do you want to see next year.

anyone who says they just can't wait to see Kate Tempest or makes a joke about the national gets a slap.

here are some possibilities:
- hot chip. tour ever other year and a lot of forum beasts have wanted them to play for ages. some people on here will say they're not big enough but they're about as big as the national and have enough smash hits to pull off a great set.
- yeah yeah yeahs. have thought for a while that they'll play the next time they tour, not really sure if they're popular enough to headline but whatever i'm a maverick.
- girls aloud. this is mainly based on them snooping around the site a couple of years back. would either be amazing or terrible depending on whether they had another east anglia gig in the same year to siphon off idiots.
- mumford & sons. i hate their guts and everything they stand for but they were dead popular last time and exactly the kind of band melvin would want to give their first ever uk festival headline slot or whatever.
- bjork. tried and failed to get her this year but it might be a bit obvious next year after bestival etc. reckon they'll put a bid in either way.
- the knife. would probably only work in the tent but if they did play it would be amazing.

Girls Aloud would want to establish themselves as main players again, rather than messing around for lols in the margins.

                    From BBC News today:
Mr Benn said preparations were already underway for next year's Latitude Festival.
"Myself and Jon Dunn (Latitude's music booker) were talking about headliners for next year and have already been chatting with a couple of people - and I talked to someone today about the Sunday lunchtime slot for next year," he said.

Hot chip's star has fallen quite dramatically - I'd say they'd be more realistic Word headliners - and that'd suit them better.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs is a good shout, as is Mumford and Sons.

There is always the ubiquitous Flaming Lips possibility.

Bjork, like the Cure, could always be too expensive for a festie that is more or less the same size as Bestival but has to spend a large chunk of its budget on Arts acts.

I'm wondering if we might see our first repeat headliner....Sigur Ros, Arcade Fire spring immediately to mind.

Then there's the big names from the mid naughties who's star has also dipped a bit and who may have come within Latitude's reach.......Scissor Sisters dont seem to be doing much but Keane are probably going to return next year.

If they want to go a bit "now" and popularist - The Script, Two Door Cinema Club (though FR may be a bit wary after Vampire Weekend's second album was assumed by everyone to be a "sure thing" only for it to bomb beyond belief)

I'll go for a balance of the young, the arty and the middle-aged friendly:

Mumford and Sons, Keane and Flaming Lips.

My hope is that they'll be a bit more careful about having something truly different from each obelisk headliner as a Word headliner........eg put Hot Chip against Mumford and sons, something loud and guitary against Keane, maybe a noah and the Whale type against Flaming Lips.
I am short, young and wildly inaccurate.

The official Vampire Weekend anti-defamation league points out that  Contra went Gold and they did an arena tour that winter after after Latitude. Also, didn't last year sell out much faster than any other year?

Unfortunately I think Mumford and Sons is a distinct possibility for a mainstage headliner, it's Melvin all over.

I'd like to think Pulp would still be a possible. Jarvis is clearly a fan of the festival and the initial excitement of their reformation will have died down meaning the chances of them being "too big" probably wouldn't be as likely.

As a more long term suggestion, it really wouldn't suprise me if Ed Sheeran headlined at some point before 2015.

Possibly - but their massive connections with Jon Dunn mean I'm not sure they can ever be entirely ruled out - especially in a year when I don't expect them to do much beyond the odd one-off show.

i'd just like to point out in case mssrs dunn and benn happen to read us all saying mumford & sons are likely and take it as confirmation they'd be good: they wouldn't.

also i think they'll go for at least one quite big headliner next time after the lack of sell out this time. maybe also worth noting that Tom Waits will have a record to promote around then and might swap in his bizarre 'i'm tom waits i only play £100+ headline shows outside of england because that's what i do' policy in exchange for a few high profile shows and raised album sales

Keane have surely become too much of a laughing stock. They're Guilfest material now.

Not sure what you are basing this on (I smell wishful thinking) - their last full album got much better reviews from the artier ends of the spectrum than they'd had before - and when they headlined the second stage at V a couple of years back it was reported as a triumph.

If Geo gets his way, I'm getting a Sunday day ticket :)
But I'm impressed he searched for a headliner that would make even Mumford look good and somehow dug up Keane, that's some kind of genius I guess!
Crap, even crapper, surprisingly good, hmm, could just work. I'll follow the pattern and go for:

The Feeling, Black Lace, Led Zeppelin
