it didn't sell out though, obviously, unless they expect us to believe that it mysteriously sold out exactly 1 hour before gates opening and you ignore the fact that you could still buy via seetickets

fiveuke If Geo gets his way, I'm getting a Sunday day ticket :) But I'm impressed he searched for a headliner that would make even Mumford look good and somehow dug up Keane, that's some kind of genius I guess! Crap, even crapper, surprisingly good, hmm, could just work. I'll follow the pattern and go for: The Feeling, Black Lace, Led Zepelin I see what you mean - but I wouldn't say the Feeling were that good.......but would absolutely cringe at Led Zeppelin playing - they are truly dreadful and, you are correct, much worse than Black Lace.

▲ also i think they'll go for at least one quite big headliner next time after the lack of sell out this time. i wonder if they will have to stump up really big money for headliners? after all there is the much anticipated absence of glasto benefit, so maybe they could go cheaper? we have ticked one or two of the usual suspects this year (eels, foals) but plenty of room for the lips, pj, portishead etc. bet they spoke to whatsit friendly fires (saw him on site), could see that as foals equivalent next year. personally, if james mercer gets his effin act together, i'd like to see the reformed shins (obvs not a mainstage headliner). also jeff mangum anyone?
don't you wonder sometimes 'bout sound and vision

Nico Rijnders The official Vampire Weekend anti-defamation league points out that Contra went Gold and they did an arena tour that winter after after Latitude. Also, didn't last year sell out much faster than any other year? Thanks for that. Glad someone has their planet earth boots on. Mumfords are Latitude all over, and what gets my goat about Latitude. Funny - 6Music played "One Life Stand" this morning, and I was thinking how good the Chip would be - though Word, not Obelisk. Two Door Cinema Club would be excellent, but stand no chance now as they may attract some young people. Personally, I'd like to see The Strokes, Dizzee Rascal and Friendly Fires - but no doubt the campsites would be smouldering ruins by Sunday night.

It may be the more recent 'weak headliners, strong underbelly', or the older latitudes 'strong headliners, average underbelly'. i reckon we could have some kind of average overlap: bjork - mercury rev - mumford

Hmmmm but going gold, ie 120,000 units, after you've shifted 500,000 units of yoour debut is stiffing, especially as it was widely predicted to be one of the summer's biggest albums.

Ideally I'd like to see: at least one genuinely strong, previously unbooked headliner next year; a really interesting JNS act that has people talking all weekend like previous years; and someone all-encompassing on the Lake Stage on Thursday. But actually, after this year, I'm confident they will make me smile whatever they choose to do.

Bloc Party, anyone? They've got a new album out either this, or next year, and Kele went down a storm this year...

They're apparently going to be recording again after the festivals are over: http://www.nme.com/news/bloc-party/58120 Having said that, this is NME, so it's most likely wrong...

We agreed that, stripped down, his songs are absolutely dire and he has an emotionless voice. If I have to, I'll take his solo stuff over BP, whose attraction has always missed me completely.

Mumford were a massive success last year (in spite of Forum vitriol) and would be perfect as an Obelisk headliner. Those who don’t like popular music can enjoy something else in the Word whilst the 90% who are not too sniffy have a jolly good time (cue rebuke from Fiveuke!) There will always be great stuff on Word and Sunrise, but personally, I would like to see some decent Obelisk headliners who have some musical cred but can still carry a large crowd, eg: Pulp, Friendly Fires (on the basis that Arcade Fire are now too big but FF are the second best band in the world with “Fire” in their name), REM (not too big any more), MGMT, Damien Rice, Bjork (of course). And please, one day, can we have Rufus Wainwright on the Lake Stage Thursday Night.

Raffles MGMT Ooh, ooh, there's a prospect! A very long one I would have thought. The perfect clink-clink-fizz antedote to that third-rate-Irish-pub-band Mumford indigestion.

yeah, the only reason that people don't like mumford & sons is because they're too stiff.

Actually Raffles I expected Mumford to be booked as headliners this year by Melvin. It seemed like a natural fit for him and I had basically thought it a no-brainer. You're right I don't like them, I don't think they're very good. I'm pretty ****ing far from sniffy though. And I like a heckuver lot of popular music. In fact I'm pretty sure I just danced from Adam Ant to They Might Be Giants in the rain.

Based on this year, next years headliners will be: BBC (promoted from Word) Bruno Mars (boring singer who Melv would think is "up and coming") Kula Shaker (not quite made it 90s band reunion tour than not enough people care for) Sunday lunch will go to Wing, the weird Chinese cover singer. All joking aside, there really is no excuse for not booking Mono after this years compo for the slot, and getting some of the acts that dropped out would be nice too. Real headliners should go for a new slant - give us Daft Punk, Doom (in whatever guise he felt like) and a DangerMouse project like Broken Bells, and I'll turn up happily.
