I thought Eels were great! They had quite a big following too, really glad I saw them. A good band, with great sons (always helps). Didn't expect that at all. Unfortunately, for me anyway, some songs aren't as good on the record I would say? I've only listened to a couple and they replace any other instrument with guitar, and it sounded amazing live, but only good on CD.

Well every time Eels tour they have a very different band playing with them, like one time it was just E with a drummer. I'm pretty pleased that the first time I see them I got this mental sounding blues rock band with three guitars. They were the perfect end to the festival.

They were great. I had heard about this changing band, was expecting something weird and wonderful but got just wonderful instead!

I was knackered and wet and sitting down at the edge of the Word tent with friends, but 2 songs from Eels was enough to send us limping across to the main stage to see the predictable theatricals from Mr Anderson + Co.

Yeah, they're not my uber faves - always found them a bit contrived. Only a parody of Anthony Newley via Bowie, but they have some decent tunes. They do have fans with a level of devotion that can only be admired/pitied depending on your outlook.

I have a bunch of associates (wouldn't go as far as to say "friends") nicknamed The Crows as they have never been seen in anything other than black from head to foot and all 4 came on Saturday purely for Suede. I asked if they would still stand watching if there were a monsoon and the only people left in the open. "We'd crawl naked over hot coals" was the answer. Bless.

Well I had a good laugh bouncing around to that machine gun set. Great stuff. Only regret was no 'Mr E's Beautiful Blues' as a festy sign-off.

Presumably alfisti's friends were quite miffed when Paulo Nutini appeared on stage.

My mind is still mush. They wouldn't cross the road to see Mr Nutini. He's far too cheerful.

It sounded a lot different to the recordings on the albums I agree. Sounded a little bit like a ska band covering Eels at times, with the massively increased tempo and all the brass. But was still awesome.

Ha, I spent the first half of the set wondering whether E was trying to speak only in monosyllabic words for the duration of the gig. "Yes", "That was good" etc.

I agree that Mr E's Beautiful Blues was missed - I was sort of expecting that as an encore. I have no idea what it was they actually ended on but it didn't sound like one of their own songs.

Was it 'Hot Fun In The Summertime'? He did a couple of Sly Stone covers.

Ultimate Latitude finsh-up for me, we all did cartwheels when they were announced. Even better, no clashes!
Despite the breakneck speed of the set (rather like TMBG racing to be the one to finish a song first) they did not disappoint - I sang Mr E's Eautiful Blues so much before & after, I had slightly convinced myself they had played it. Funny how as you get older, that irritation of your voice not being as good as the original wears off.
They smashed every song, still waiting for the euphoria to die down, nearly two weeks later.

OK, it's running through my head again. Ear defenders, all around. (Those little kids looked cool in them, didn't they?)
