First ever festival camp, First ever Latitude - ups and downs! 18 July 2011 21:24 (permalink)
Well like the title we've now lost our fest camping virginity, I feel like a real man!

If you cant be arsed to read more, just want to say well done and thankyou to the organizers and the majority of staff/volounteers which were spot on (theres always a few though) and we'll see you next year

Ups...
  • Been to and played at quite a few festivals and have to say I loved the lineup of this years Latitude, The National and Sea Sick Steve rocked, loved the comedy and little acts scattered about,  who were the quirky chemist/musician guys playing in the shed near the comedy area on Sun aft, they were awsome but had to leave?
  • Was a bit worried about  the security after some bad press but felt safe and had no probs with tent raiders (camped in the red area quite near the woods entrance), a few mad kids up all night but not exactly Download crowd stuff.
  • Facilities, heard a few moans but come on, never qued for a loo and the attendants were like machines what a job!, always a bar or food stall close by, didn't get affected much by the water shortage as we did not cook and carried our own water in but had to laugh at the fact that the guys would not give me a bottle of water in the arena only a cup, wouldnt even let me swap my empty for a full one or fill it bottle to bottle, not very green! but good on for shipping th mountains of bottled water in so qiuck.
  • Make us a brew...Awsome tent
Downs...
  • Whats with the food prices, come on guys get a bit of a grip on this.
  • No urinals in the campsite, felt sorry for the attendants cleaning the loos to have the next guy pee all over the seat, lets face it 90% of guys will do it with a pint or two inside them.
  • My hangovers after the pints of scarecrow, what a beer!
Thats it thanks for a great weekend!

First ever festival for us as well, though all our kids have been to other festivals so we just went with no agenda, except to enjoy ourselves.
Friday - Robin Hood (great), Hot Mess (really good, if you didn't go you should've), Brown Brogues (you've got to see them), K T Tunstall (good), Paloma Faith (realy good except for the moans about her record company) caught the last bit of The Vaccines (should have seen them instead of Paloma, but you can't be everywhere. Then Annie Nightingale (late and very average).

Saturday - The Opera Group: Seven Angels (absolutely brilliant, just served to underline why opera is such a sublime artform when it gets it right! If you get a chance to see this don't miss it.)  Then Patrick Barkham (I never knew the pursuit of butterflies could be so entertaining), Seasick Steve (good), caught Bellow Head while we were getting something to eat and getting over the disappointment of the ballet being rained off (sounded great), end of My Morning Jacket (enjoyed what I saw) and then Paulo Nutini (really good show, and so much more to him musically than I thought). Couldn't get back to the theatre quick enough to see 1927 so just wandered back to the tent via the wacky neon lit rapper and Cabaret (just why you go to festivals).

We left on Sunday (work and a long way to go) but had a really good time. Yes it was muddy, and in a gathering of this size you are always going to come across some people who will get on your nerves but if that's the price of a great weekend it's a small price to pay! See you next year.

The random bits did it for us too jonandmitch, they made a top effort making the night look trippy, gymnast/ballet whilst flying about on a hot air balloon was something to remember wish I'd seen it all.
