I'm a fan, and I enjoyed them, but preferred the set last year in a packed and up for it Word, to be completely honest. Saw one Suede track before chortling off to the brilliant Eels. Didn't see or hear Paolo as I was bouncing about enjoying Foals amid 7,000 identical hipster kids with their comeovers and placcy Raybans.

Which reminds me: how come I saw fireworks on the TV highlights of Nutini, but didn't get them in real-life a few years back when Sigur Ros played Staralfur? That would have been ace.

Nutini needed fireworks in his set to stop people falling asleep I think. Sigur Rós, as good as that would have been, didn't need them.

I didn't know The National at all and intended to only watch the start and then go over and see The Bombay Bicycle Club, in the end I stayed and watched the whole set and I thought it was by far the best thing I saw all weekend, I loved the camera stuff before they came out and the videos on stage while they played were brilliant as well.

Can anyone who knows their stuff tell me what the track was where Matt banged his Microphone against some speakers (or something hard) it was my favorite track.

Seems like the generally opinion is that they weren't as great as last year. Shame, kind of glad I saw BBC instead. Pretty ****e clash though.

I loved the way Sigur Rós stunned simply with confetti, will never forget how orgasmic that was :)

That was great. They were good, I stayed for the whole thing (didn't expect too).

Generally I watch the headliners from the back of the arena on the bleacher seats because my kids are getting tired by that time of night.  Watched for about half an hour but felt they were not "reaching" the audience.  So we went back to our tent (on top of the hill in Family Camping and therefore well placed to hear the Obelisk) and sat outside making a hot choclolate and still got near perfect sound.

              Which was nice.

I loved the National this year, I was in the middle 2 rows back - lots of atmosphere + a lot of my favourite tracks. My top moment of the festival was Matt jumping into the crowd during Terrible Love face to face with me :)
The only down side was a group of teen-boys (no I'm not anti-teen) behind us who talked + smoked through most of the set, the when Matt first came down to the barrier surged forward yelling 'oi..oi' 'what's his name?' why were they there?
Last year was the first time I'd seen them and for that was very special, it was a different experience, both as good as each other, but for different reasons.

The annoying thing about this year, as opposed to last, was the inundation of 14-17 year olds who would push about instead of appreciating the music, which was pretty rife in BBC. As there is such a difference between them and The National it was just a huge flock to BBC, which ****ed me off a little bit as I got shunted about everywhere even during less "moshable" tunes. After they'd finished I cruised through The National and watched for a couple of songs but I wasn't really that gripped.

To be fair, BBC are barely 14-17 themselves...

If i'd have known disreali was on at the poetry tent and they weren't going to play Fake Empire till last and Mistaken For Strangers not at all. I'd have done some running and done my best to see both Bomb Tesco and Fake Empire. Ah well, hopefully disreali will be at Shambala again this year...

The track was Mr November. Don't worry I don't have a freakish memory! - I only know because the song was shown on the Sky Arts coverage

Agreed....probably not as good as last year, but still bloody damn good all the same. Your always gonna get more die hard fans in the Word, but i think they won quite a lot of people over. I had a few people who didnt know them and were asking me what song this was so they could download it and how impressed they were...couldnt believe they'd never heard of them etc.
I was stoked on the rareties though.....and yeah Vanderlyle works better when its pure die hards...so that would have been sweet in the word. The did it at Warwick arts centre last year and it was sublime.

haha...I just watch the sky arts coverage and saw me on my mates shoulders at the start of Fake Empire, i was drunk and slighty over excited at the time!

Epic. Incredible. Marvellous. Owned the weekend. I wasn't sure if they'd top how they played last year but there was a real sense of occasion about it. Excellent set list too.

Have to echo Claire's words and say it was as brilliant as the Word show last year, especially being right up front in the thick of it....Matt pointed his microphone at me whilst on the barrier and I sang "yyyyyeaaawwwwweeeeerrrr" beautifully

By far the best of the headliners this year. Brilliant setlist, and a totally awesome performance as the sun went down. Mesmerising images I won't forget in a hurry.
