Esben and the witch were fantastic despite their 'technical' difficulties
Adam Ant was fantastic and my only gripe really of the whole weekend was that he was in the word tent whilst They might be giants were on the obelisk! Why??
The reverend Billy was inspiring!!

Again my only real gripe is the feeling that many acts were put on the wrong stage (They might be giants....Obelisk....really???)

They Might Be Giants were fabulous, and did a few of their kiddie friendly funny/educational stuff so I'm guessing that's why they were outside.

The word is 8,000 capacity anyway - if it wasn't for those selfish families treating it like an umbrella (without at least having the decency to make sure music fans could get in and out) it would have been fine.
I am short, young and wildly inaccurate.

I managed to be at the barrier for them and sang a long the whole way and caught the attention of the band members many times! Shame no Ana Ng though :/

        Re:Personal Highlights... 18 July 2011 21:40 (permalink)
This was my first time at latitude and i celebrated my birthday on saturday by losing my mate and wondering around til 4am (: i had one bit of hassle from a drunk teen that quite frankly would get his posh ass kicked if he spoke to anyone else that way!. im fairly shocked he even had the balls to walk over and say anything to start with. i guess due to tattooed neck and arms i look the type that likes a fight, but i dont, and all i can think is, it did his ego some good looking hard in front of his friends. anyways besides this little minor i didnt see too many out of control teens, but i guess they existed and thats life...when drunk. maybe limiting the amount allowed in would help silence the beer monster antics, though it could get very boring for the older social drinker, and it runs the chance of becoming a true old folk family orientated event..which is fine, but not if under 40 without kids!. i do think because us non drinkers have to pay £2 x 10 times a day for a flat pepsi, maybe the extra money from actually selling onsight beer, could be used to put up some flashing signs to highlight which shows are coming up next. without a book in hand and without any memory it was a lot of guess work trying to recall who was on and where. Again and sorry, but back to anti social social drinkers, thinking about it, i didnt see too too many, but that opinion might be due to me being a non drinking weed smoker without kids..yes you may have seen me toking (: but maybe not because i was discreet in the busy areas or when kids were around. Tbh the bit near the sheep and the light show was the smokers spot by the look of things. The area is well peaceful and all the people there were very friendly (:

next year, provided i can get a lift, i'll probably be on my own and fingers are already crossed it works out safe. Im happy this years trip wasnt alone, but it nearly was loner trip because i split up with my ex after living together for a decade. thankfully it worked out a friend was free and the green campsite was quiet anyways.

        the highlights were:
        carl baret
        lykke li
        omd
        the sheep
        the lights
        seasick steve
and much much more..shame i lost the camera and have no brain or photos! (: lol

if anyone can tell me who the female poet from london is? id much appreciate. i think she was on saturday afternoon and she did a poem called patterns. in the official latitude 300 odd page weight lifters book, which also got lost! she is described as liking william blake!

Anyhow hopefully everyone had a great weekend and hopefully ya'll get back home safe n well. peace

As I was stewarding I didn't see too much music. My favourite song of the weekend was Tree Fight for Sunlight (is that right?) covering Wuthering Heights, which was hysterically funny but brilliant.
Closely followed by Paloma Faith's cellulite song. I didn't know much about Paloma beforehand but she was excellent. KT's Black Horse and the Cherry Tree was obviously brilliant too.
Shame about all the arseholes going into people's tents in family camping and chucking beer over their sleeping bags. Not the best way for a steward to spend the final evening, apologising to families.

Honesty, I left my bag in the secure lock up. When I went back for it a man was asking if anyone had handed in a wallet. I thought you have no chance. But the woman behind the desk asked what colour was it as quite a few had been handed in. He got it back and with all the contents still in.

Thanks loads n loads lizbee, you just made my night. Kate tempest hey?. She was amazing and like you say, she is very fast. she was so fast at times she confused herself mid flow and either asked the audience or had a giggle and carried on (:

it seems googles going to be very handy for lyrics, but tbh i think i'll try order a cd/book before zzzz time tonight.

A very poor showing indeed. You need to try harder next time (if I can walk all the way from the arena at 6am this morning to Red Camping to look for the BLM camp, unsuccessfully, so then back to beyond the top of the arena followed by a (successful) return journey to Red Camping a little later, then you can at least give it a go to meet someone).

To find that an angel had handed my dropped car keys in to lost property ( what were the odds in all that mud!?) Words cannot express my gratitude.

Yay!  I love good news like this.

The loo's were fantastic and the people running it were also very friendly and funny.

I know roger, i know i did hang my head in shame at the poor effort on my account. However i simply had no idea where the forum members where meeting as i was in yellow camping C and had no idea where red camping was. i would have also been rather nervous meeting all of you guys and gals as i still feel like a small fish in a big pond within these forums ;) oh well nexy year i must pay attention to where BLM are located and pop around for a quick hello!

Adam Rutherford's short film about the shuttle - also made me cry

That film was awesome beyond belief! When they finish it on Thursday with the last shuttle landing I hope a link gets posted on here.
I've got faith they'll link in the Columbia tragedy with care and produce a stunning video that everyone should appreciate.

I can't tell you how happy I am that it made someone else cry... I don't feel like such a pathetic girl now ;-)

                            Other highlights:
RAGHU DIXIT - we were right at the front, got to shake his hand afterwards - he isn't getting nearly enough mentions on here! His set was awesome, and his enthusiasm is obvious, infectious, and wonderful. Put him on a bigger stage next year please!
I Am Kloot - hadn't heard them until I listened to Latitude's Spotify playlists (thanks, whoever did those!) - they're challenging hard to be my new favourite band :-)
Dylan Moran - had only just seen him live doing pretty much the same routine, but he still caused major hysterics, despite me standing with my nose pressed up against a wet kagoule for two hours
Robin Ince - was bloody everywhere (we saw him five times!) but also bloody hilarious (especially when illustrating particle physics with freeform jazz!)
Eels - so glad I decided not to see Suede. Eels were amazing.

Oh, and the toilets. It was my first ever festival and I'd been properly scared about what horrors might await. Assuming the stuff on the walls was just mud, I didn't see anyone else's poo all weekend ;-)
If ignorance is bliss, then I must be having a whale of a time.

I know 2 people, friends, who also happen to have been the bee wranglers down at the Rowse stall in the Children's area, they found a wallet full of cards and stuff, and 150 quid in cash, they handed it in and the rightful owner got it back.  Great.

Musical highlights included Raghu Dixit (must have been just behind akbea), Os Mutantes (that girl singer had a great smile) and Hypnotic Brass (even the old people round the edge were partying).

Loads of other highlights of course and complete sensory overload, but that's what's great about Latitude ... Ibsen, hip hop, listening to a bloke talking about butterfly spotting (the Literature tent was PACKED!), some charming wood nymphs having a tea party etc etc.  Please don't let the fact that most festival goers seem to stick to the music with a bit of comedy thrown in make you change the formula because we love it as it is.  My only gripe over the programme is that the Film and Music tent was rather dominated by music this year, which made it harder to see the films that were on whilst musicians were setting up in front of the main screen and the music audience was standing around chatting in my field of view.

Foals, Raghu Dixit during the rain, Hurts (yes!), Dizraeli, nearly everything on the Sunrise stage, Mr B on Thursday, ****ed sloanies skidding about in flipflops and sunglasses, scoring a table at Giant Robot during the sunny bit on Sunday, anything at all to do with the Mr Scruff tent.
