Also indicates that Hurts actually aren't all that popular in the UK, were way too high up the bill, and people preferred OMD, Lykke Li, Foster The People etc...

The crowd for Hurts, who are actually reasonable popular, was embarassingly small. This may have been because of the rain and the fact that it was sunday and half the festival appeared to have gone home, but that indicates that a lot of people there left when it got a bit unpleasant

Perhaps they aren't that popular, although last year on the saturday crystal castles played, and hurts are probably bigger than them, and crystal castles set was one of the worst things to ever happen anywhere, and I normally quite like them. And they had a pretty big crowd I seem to remember.

Surely the fact that Hurts were up agianst Lykki Li was theri biggest problem in drawing a crowd

Perhaps, but probably every single other band on the main stage over the weekend had more people than them

Bah, mass journalism! I'm writing my review for my online magazine right now, and I can tell you I saw LOADS of bands!!!!!! LOADS. Most of the big journos spent too much time in the press tent comparing Macbooks and generally being gits to bloggers like me!

Disagree entirely about the music. Enjoyed every set I saw, with the exception of Foals (but that's more to do with the fact that it's just not my kinda thing) and the ridiculous style-over-substance of Hurts.

The Walkmen, BSP, Bunnymen, Carl Barrett, Waterboys, Suede, Fight Like Apes, OMD all absolutely excellent. Would have no complaints at all if Latitude had a similar quality musical line-up next year.

PS Can  I just say that I saw Foster the People at Glastonbury, and thought they were absolutely AWFUL. I'm surprised that any serious Latitude goers would think so highly of a wannabe American boy band clearly aimed to appeal to 13-year-old girls!

I can echo this 100% (perhaps with the exception of FOALS as I like what they're doing).

I've seen a few worrying comments in the press and on some of these threads bemoaning the lack of "popular" music fodder at Latitude. The biggest laugh I had this week was reading the Guardians comparison between Paloma Faith at Latitude and Beyonce at Glasto. Absolutely hilarious. There are clearly those amongst us who would like to turn every festival into another version of Radio 1's Big Weekend. I say those of us who take music seriously enough should do all we can to resist them!

I can honestly say that if Beyonce had been on the Obelisk instead of Paloma Faith, I would have still opted for Camille O'Sullivan in the Film tent. Cracking as ever, despite the lethal microphone.

there are soooo many festivals around now - I think Latt will have to
have better headliners to compete - and the Obelisk is so huge that few groups do it justice.
