Worst Band Playing Latitude This Year?
07 July 2011 20:44
( permalink)
I always like to do a negative thread around this time of year to offset all the positive vibes and excitement going down and keep us all nicely grounded. So yeah who do you think is the worst band playing this year? Last year for me it had to be Mumfords and in 09 it was an amazing tie between Gurrumul and The Alfonzo. My 2011 vote goes to the amazingly awful... YELLOWIRE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McNu5pUUYz4 BLOODY HELL THAT IS TERRIBLE

Nice. I think it had to be Lissie for me last year, or perhaps Sting's sexcrement(TM), but Mumford would have upset more people, so I see where you're coming from. Worst band, or the band that I dislike the most? I think they're very different things and if we're going to be bastards then I at least want to cause upset precisely...

I... really quite like it, reminds me of my GCSE music piece... haha Regarding the negative thing, i don't like being negative so, you know, no comment :) This being said, still feel Nutini shouldn't be headlining but, you know.

There are some really talented musicians that I personally think make bloody awful music. And some bands I've loved TO BITS that are crap musicians. You see.

All these threads are ace, but mostly I'm just really pleased with my new hat.

i've been thinking about this a lot recently. one that make me laugh a lot is These Are End Times. not bothered listening to them but they are clearly awful cliche 'lets start a post rock band' nonsense. here are their two biographies on the website and the lake stage announcement: #1 The apocalyptic trio These Are End Times has taken the scaremongering and doom-saying seriously, shrouding their image and foreboding post-rock instrumentals in it. Songs entitled 'We're Not Safe Here' and 'Now I Realise How Helpless We Are' give an indication of what to expect, while the swaying, lonely brass, gently picked electric guitars, and samples of stormy noise bring you into their vision of a barren planet. Expect beauty and chaos intermingled, and perhaps you too can be saved. #2 These Are End Times offer anything but the conventional. Their debut release 'We Have Come So Far, it is Over' is a concept record that centres around a suicide. Standout track 'There Should Be A Crowd of Spectators at My Execution' occasionally runs in at over 30 minutes when played live, and you will struggle to find a band making more atmospheric and apocalyptic music anywhere in the world.

Oh god Rumer, I saw her on TV last night...boring beyond belief. I've been less irritated by gnats. Urgh..will definitely avoid.
Fingers! It is NOT 'festical'...

I don't hate that Yellowire song... I find it quite difficult to pay attention to it long enough to form an opinion. Might be alright in a lift or something... Do we even have lift music in this country? The only band I don't like (of the ones I know) are Bellowhead. It's difficult to hate bands on the line-up this year because it's not like I've been subjected to incessant radio-play by any of the bands I'm not a fan of.
It's quite interesting, you know, the number of biscuits that are named after revolutionaries. You've got your Garibaldi, of course, you've got your Bourbons, then of course you've got your Peek Frean's Trotsky Assortment.

I do see where you're coming from, but it is tongue-in-cheek. I saw them live recently, the trumpet player is a very, very talented lad and they've actually really got something. Chatted to the guys after and they're straight up, self-effacing and really excited about the Lake Stage opportunity. So no, not the worst band, even if you hate the cut of their gib, purely because that lad really can toot that toob. ▲ I've been thinking about this a lot recently. one that make me laugh a lot is These Are End Times.

In fact, I reckon the Lake Stage should be exempt from ridicule.

My favourite game today was reading the band descriptions on the announcements threads and counting how many words I got through before deciding not to watch them at Latitude. It was fun, seriously. I nearly started a thread about it. Anyway, voting Nutini.

What did you expect, blah... blah... blah... I've now had a good think about this, and I'd say, that fitting all criteria (they play crap, they are crap, they hold too high an opinion of themselves, they consume oxygen on too high a stage slot etc...) then it has to be... Glasvegas.

Yellowire is like a really bad version of Charlie From Busted solo material.
