Camping alone? 19 June 2011 23:37 (permalink)
My friend and I were originally camping with a third person who's had to pull out. We're both 17. This will be our first year at Latitude.
Now, I say 'alone', because this friend is very very slight - looks like you could snap her in half - INCREDIBLY shy (painfully, even!) and rather quiet and nervy. So at the risk of sounding a bit of a cow... it might almost feel like camping by myself.
Now, I'm just a bit pint sized at 4'10", but I'm very outgoing and talking to strangers isnt a problem for me. I just feel a little nervous camping with only my very nice but rather scrawny little friend in tow, especially since at Reading last year i was with 20 or so other people. I think what I'm trying to ask is if it's quite a friendly/safe(ish) fest? Will we fare up alright by ourselves? Anyone want to come and guard our tent all night in exchange for some pot noodle?

Thanks in advance!

Well, this will only be my second Latitude, and whilst last year I was camping with a huge group of friends, I spent most of the festival wondering around on my own. I didn't feel threatened at any point - it barely even crossed my mind I might have to be.

Having said that, I'm a big, angry looking ginger dude with unkempt hair, so hey...
You should be all right, it's a pretty chill atmosphere. The campsite will play a small part, as well - Yellow is definitely comparatively rowdy.

As far as festivals go Latitude has always seemed incredibly safe and friendly, after all it is mainly a family orientated ting. I know the incidents last year could really put people off, but Latitude remains 20 times safer than Reading or Leeds, and about 100 times safer than an average night out in Norwich. Honestly you'll be completely fine, but if you are worried at all why not camp near the Billy Loadsa Mates set up? It's where all the people going alone, or just wanted to camp as a part of a nice extended group go. Have a little gander-  http://forums.latitudefestival.co.uk/m115545.aspx

I won't be there because I'm painfully cool and wouldn't ever want people to know i post regularly on a middle class festival internet forum but it seems like a fun place to camp
getting lynched at the festival mate, better stay out of my way. Hang you in in the sunrise tent mate, gonna yank ur dick off.

You might want to check out BILLY LOADSA MATES if you're going on your own(ish).

Failing that, my little brother will do anything you ask for re-hydrated noodle snacks.

lol whut? Norwich is ridiculously safe, the only city ive been to where im happy to walk to the kebab and bustop on my own without worrying about getting a right kicking tbh.

Poppa, you'll be fine. As everyone else has said, maybe Billy Loadsa Mates could be a good fit for your situation :)
Introduce yourself on the facebook group aswell, they're a friendly bunch!
May even say hi this year, if i get tickets for the old festie and all :)

You'll love it on your own, i always end up wandering off on my own and its great, see whatever you want without anyone else bugging you!

poppa, sounds like you've got nothing to worry about if you've already done reading. depends on what camping experience you want.
yellow is the most 'reading' of areas and it's close to the arena.red/green/blue are further away and a bit quieter and less crowded.
as for tangerine..god knows what goes on in there, but i've heard that jacuzzis, thai massage and car keys in a bowl is the morning ritual before a breakfast of egg benedict served on a copy of the daily telegraph.served by the festival dwarves. on unicorns

That's ludicrous! There's no such thing as unicorns! They just ride regular Friesian stallions.

Prince of Wales road in Norwich is statistically the most violent street in England, apparently.
