Needless to say I spent a small fortune posting my badly packaged CD's by first class post at lunchtime, so they announce Royal Mail privatisation this evening. **** knows when anyone will get anything.

"More ambitious" privatisation than expected, apparently. Providing a decent, universal, public mail service would be ambitious. ****ing Vince Cable ****.

I came back from my walk and put Moochoo's CD in the stereo, and...

IT DIDN'T EFFING WORK. Hopefully this is because the CD player is a bit old and temperamental, and not because it knows how terrible it's going to be. I'll try playing it in my computer instead. Otherwise I will be claiming a refund.

ANYWAY, I decided to listen to Moz CD instead because it was within easy reach. Also, he had given mine a right slagging so I thought I could exact some easy revenge. Turns out it's actually a REALLY RUDDY GOOD LISTEN. I don't like all the songs on it, but all the interlude bits are fun and it flowed very nicely and was generally pleasant. It is currently fighting with Grouchland CD for second place in this competition (mine is winning).

Cheers, man. :)

gave mister moz' compact disc a spin today, and although a lot of it is really not my kind of thing, found it a well done thing...more on it later...but one immediate thought is that he does seem to have a thing about ladies singing over loud guitars ? ahemm...and why not ?

still no disc off of maddix

My missus mocks me for that apparent preference too. I just like what i like, innit. :)

I'm in Limbo.  Neither here nor there.  And it's quite frustrating. My mind is in several place and none, all at the same time.

I'm still in England but I'm going home on Thursday and since I got back from Leeds last week I've basically just been counting the days until I'm finally home, and packing and repacking my suitcases every day, it's all making me incredibly unfocused. it's been a bit Groundhog-y - wake up, nothing to do, do nothing, have a drink, do more nothing, feel un-concentrated, finish the bottle, go to bed.

Normal service will resume shortly.

did you get me CD in time? or shall i resend to poland?

Prolapse one.

I've not yet listened to the cd but a quick look over the tracklisting suggests to me it will be right up my street. It's the kind of cd I would make if I was just gonna make a cd for me to listen to of some of my favourite (but ultimately quite samey) songs.

I listened to MOZ's CD just now.

I liked the structure of Moz's CD, the interlude's helped break up each section nicely and kept it fresh. Skits like this are always a risk as it is a bit of a cliché, but these were nice enough and one of them made me do a Maddix trademark LOL. I thought each section had a little theme, which was nice too. Some were stronger than others.

Songs especially liked sponsored by The Like:

Hearing the Best Coast track out of context of the album made me realise what a good record it is. It's a lovely sound and a bit more muscular than is often claimed by their/her detractors. The Freelance Whales I also liked. It reminded me a bit of The Acorn, who I like. The Bird & The Bee track completed a winning opening salvo.

Sleater Kinney I used to really like, never really listen to these days, but an enjoyable reminder. McLusky are obviously excellent. The Sleigh Bells track is pretty ace too, I like them as a singles band, not sure about the whole album, though only listened to it all the way through once. FCGT I also enjoyed.

Moaning section sponsored by Moochoo

The Marvin Green and Al Green songs are obviously classics, but slightly obvious choices and it seemed a bit of a tokenist way of breaking up the indie.

A friend of mine who is too scared of hoppo to go on the internet got me to download that The Aloof track the other month so I listened to it and then refused to post it to him as it was so boring.

An ex of Nico Ri/j/j/inders used to love Six by Seven. Their fans go on as if their lack of profile or acclaim was some kind of terrible oversight, but really they are the archetypal meat and potato house band for a certain kind of proficient 90's indie lifestyle soundtrack. It was nice to have a Proustian affirmation of my decision to have a massively horrific breakup in 2003 though.

The Crocketts song was rubbish. I hate it when you can hear acoustic guitar while they're all rocking out (apart from, like, Neil Young and actually loads of things I probably like). It was like something off Hollyoaks.

That Prolapse song was the only thing I skipped (I was making scrambled eggs during The Crocketts) I see what they're doing, it might have worked if the insults had been especially inventive or funny. Perhaps I have missed the point.

Thought it tailed off a bit towards the end, Cooper Temple Clause were always boring.

Conclusion

Although Moz used the whole 80 minute CD capacity, this never dragged and flowed very nicely, albeit I preferred the stuff in the first half. If I worked for Milton Keynes council in some kind of Soviet capacity I would happily appoint Moz to do a Sunday afternoon "nice indie, a bit of lols and other stuff" radio show. I wouldn't listen to it though, being a Soviet Council appointing type I would either be with my family on my boat by the lake or with my mistress or something.

What I did next

I am literally listening to Maddix85's CD now. So far I don't think there has been any indie pop at all, it is all excellent African pop or trademark Maddix discordant indie, so I don't know what you're all on about.

Thanks for the mostly positive review, dude. :)

Of course, having a slight superiority complex, i do feel the need to reply to a few points. :)

The point about Marvin Gaye & Al Green. I understand the point of those tracks being a little obvious. I couldve put some obscurio's from both artists on (i have a few CRACKING live bits & bobs). But, to be honest, they are ace tracks that deserve to be there on merit, well known or not. Which is also why i put Patsy Cline on the end. I LOVE that song.....

I understand your dislike of Six. by Seven maybe because of an EX. But....your SO wrong. They are the best thing to have happened to music since that blues geezer said he saw the devil & gave him a tune. Or something. I did put their 'biggest hit' on me CD (got into the hit parade at no 46. In with a bullet etc..) which isnt as loud or... epic as other stuff......but they are great. You are wrong. And i think you shouldve listened to the whole of a track (Prolapse) before judging it.

Everything else i concede that if you dont like them, then that is fair enough.

Im a little annoyed that NO ONE recognises the intro. Most of yer being from the East of England and all.....

So.....yeah. thanks. :)

Re:Anyone Fancy Another CD Swap? - 11 September 2010 12:25
Oh My Goodness.

Two CDs arrived today.

First I opened a delivery from Jersey. To my non-surprise, it contained Fabby's CD. I liked that Fabby has declared the value of the CD as £5 on the customs sticker. I would have insisted on writing 'priceless' for my CD, but I suppose every tedious prankster in Jersey tries that at some point.

During the last CD swap I agreed with Fabby that people who read the tracklist before listening to the CD are unbearable savages. Therefore I will pretend I didn't read hers, even if maybe I did.

Then - with all due respect to Fabby and the other CD senders - came The Main Event. I looked at the artwork Nico Rijnders had included and admired the fancy faux-vinyl CDs. Aestheically pleasing. Then I read the letter and tracklist. It was all very good and the songs are all amazing. I looked at the badges and thought 'that's nice'. Then as I was chucking the envelope into the bin I noticed a shining glimmer and double-checked. Good job I did cos I am now the owner of an incredible St Etienne badge which is the greatest thing I own.

My girlfriend noticed that I was becoming quite excited. Then, demonstrating that she does take an interest in my hobbies, she got quite excited herself that I had received some stuff from "Nico Rijnders off of the internet". Then she read the tracklist and started singing The Supremes Stoned Love. I can't wait to listen to all these CDs at some point this weekend.

Still waiting for my love letter from BeeRose.

OMG BEEROSE YOU HAVE BEEN PWNED

Just got Nico's package and it is the best yet. Cd and Chupa Chups lolly are obv cool but my badge collection these past two days has become UBER COOL. British Sea Power, Jarvis Cocker and BEST COAST! badges from Nico - amazing. My favourite however was the ORANJE one, seriously the coolest thing I own now I think, oh and the Vad der Vaart sticker was a lovely touch too. You got a badge making kit or something Nico? They're lovely.

A cd from Jersey person arrived too - thanks.

Ah hoppo, too cool for school as ever.

V.sorry BeeRose, should obviously have been a little note with the tracklisting. I will PM it to you, in a massively self-important way of avoiding spoilers for those with less efficient postal services.

I get a lot of badges (http://50pbadges.com/) and Rounder Records give a lot of them (Best Coast) away for free. Sorry if you didn't get a badge, it just means you either don't post enough biographical information on the forum or that I don't have any Cardiacs/Scotchland badges.

I don't think I will sleep tonight, knowing that Thomas's girlfriend knows who I am.

Gratitude’s due to both Nico and Fabby; delighted though I was to receive a lolly (promptly nicked by Dr Moochoo) alongside CDs headed by St Etienne (and a Jersey is always welcome as summer fades), I un-sheaved my mail box in expectation of several cheques from clients.

None arrived.

I have more music, but it'll be 10p noodles next week (and no Grinderman record).

Am richer spiritually, of course, and anticipate some scintillating samples amongst N and F's wares. I should have thought of badges; I have loads of pagan/occult examples to offload.

Listened to the majority of Dairy Lea’s CD earlier. Review sometime before Samhain.

Have decided that I don’t like compilations, however: I’m a record girl.

Some of the more sarcastic ones I put up on my desk at work and then wonder why my life is unravelling before me. Otherwise people put badges on clothes. Usually jackets, tops, tracksuit tops, etc? Oh yeah, maybe on a bag?

I only ever wear one badge at a time, any more is overkill. Today I wore my PAINS one on my tracksuit top thing to watch the football at Carrow Road. It looked wonderful.

The decoration of desks at my work has been banned, as it displayed dangerous levels of individuality, self-determination, humour, non-corporate thinking etc. It's been replaced by motivational slogans painted on the walls (this is not a joke). Customer service is not a department. It's a state of mind.

Anyway, I used to have lots of badges on my bag so I might start doing that again. I worry that they'll get smashed off whem I'm down the pub. I might pin the St Etienne badge directly onto my flesh to keep it safe.

I feel I should clarify that when I describe Maddix's CD as like Peel on an undistinguished night, that is not meant to be back handed. I just meant that on peak form Peel was single handedly inventing Punk and Acid House and what not and being  hysterically funny, massively charming and probably the pinnacle of human existence. Which to be fair to Maddix is a lot to expect in a CD swap. Ok?

BTW Nico, when I was opening my package from you and more and more amazing stuff kept coming out of it, my girlfriend was pretty sure you are trying to groom me.

I feel bad for only sending out a boring cd now, and I have to admit that any further cds I receive will leave me disappointed if they're not packed with other gifts.

Time for FORUM SECRET SANTA this year too I reckon.
