Now you see why I waited for the no marks who voted in this thread to leave before getting involved in another cd swap.

I've heard all 20 records many times and am disappointed with the result. None of them are bad, but - when fools like me are arguing for diversity - this list is hardly likely to sell it. I didn't vote for any of them. In politics the people I vote for never succeed either. Perhaps I should consider heading a benign dictatorship. The best record on the list? "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennae To Heaven". Now there’s a record. Where's the electronica (New Order really don't cut it) and hip hop. Guitar Guitar Guitar. There are other instruments out there, one knows. Are you people really this boring? And, Thomas, how in the name of Cracknell have you managed hear a mere 3 of these? That’s some achievement.

Dunno how I've avoided them. It isn't deliberate. Obviously I have probably heard most of the songs on many of those albums, through being at friends houses or at clubs or watching adverts for cars or TV dramas. Quite a few I have started but given up on. The ones I've heard - in the sense that I have listened to them in one go in their entirety - are: Substance, Lift your skinny fists, and VU & Nico. I want to listen to Endtroducing, but I keep forgetting.

Actually, looking back over the list I have heard all of the albums and would consider myself a fan of them all too. The albums in the list are all good albums so it's not a bad list, it's just a horribly predictable and uninspiring list.

Yeah I should clarify that I have nothing against people who like the stuff on this list; it's just that there are many people who only like the stuff on this list.

That's how best of lists will go though, pretty much by definition, especially when the sample gets big enough. Not really worth worrying about, I doubt if Melvin, John and Tania are on the phone to, er, Thom Yorke as we speak.

Thomas Bloody hell. I don't know why people are worried about the shame of putting generic indie on their Latitude Forum compilations, given this shower. Why not just give the public what they evidently want, eh. I hope none of the Festival Republic bookers discover this list. er, only i mentioned a moratorium on generic indie music in reference to getting a bonus cd in the cd swap with any sent to ms phht...etc

maddix85 Now you see why I waited for the no marks who voted in this thread to leave before getting involved in another cd swap. Yes, somewhere deep in the murky mists of mindfukkery, I think I recall one of the said markless maniacs nominating a We Are Scientists record as one of the finest albums ever composed. Daren't look back in case I wasn't hallucinating! I know such honestly does my popularity few favours, but crikey, Annie should ban that masked manikin. Some of us ought to have voted tactically: Giddy and I should have agreed on a Cardiacs record and slapped it at number one; I ought to have supported Grouchland's "Tender Prey" call. It still wouldn't have added up though, would it? The masses are everywhere; there are masses of them. This sort of thing really depresses me, more than someone awarding 7 out of 10 to a Crass classic. I have a problem Maybe it is me! Maybe everyone else is sane!

Actually, having had a proper look, it is a really bad list, isn't it? Even though loads of my choices are on it. Weird that it was started after I mentioned that The National would occupy a load of the top positions, like Radiohead do in those Q polls, and then Radiohead have three of the top five. It's Moochoo's fault that there isn't any Hip Hop, he picked the wrong Public Enemy album. Also, was two votes for Liquid Swords not enough? Obviously not. I had hopes for that.

Nico Rijnders Mr Moochoo I didn't vote for any of them. In politics the people I vote for never succeed either. It's true: I didn't vote in this election due to moving house. Oddly, the postal voting card reached my lethargic letter box two days after the deadline. Had I voted for the Lib Dems, the Green Party would now be in Government. Not a bad idea, now that their ditching the green baggage in favour of socialism.

Liquid Swords was 18 points off getting into the list, and also the forum's favourite hip hop album (#53).

grouchland Liquid Swords was 18 points off getting into the list, and also the forum's favourite hip hop album (#53). Christ. On the one hand, I think that it is good and honest that people vote for recent albums or records that mean a lot to them, rather than considering what they think should be in some kind of critical canon. On the other hand, is that Elbow album really a best album of all time? I'll stop here, before I reveal myself to be a stinking hypocrite, again.

Liquid Swords languished at 11 on my list, Nico. Public Enemy were more groundbreaking - had to go with them. GZA certainly warrants a place at the top table. I bought The National's "Boxer" when it cam out. It's a perfectly pleasant midway point between The Tindersticks and Interpol, and I quite like it - though wouldn't be too upset if I never heard it again. Is it really one of the greatest records of all time, however? Really? Come on now?
