Shop(s) nearby the site? 14 July 2010 17:25 (permalink)
Naturally, I don't want to bring loads of food and booze to the site tomorow, and nearby the site of the Reading Festival there are various shops (tesco's, co-op etc) where you can stock up on beer and whatnot. I'mnot familiar with the latitude site, so does anybody know if there's any similar places, or will we have to buy from the bars or places onsite?

Thanks!

There's a couple of Morrisons reasonably close by, probably your best bet.

Ok thanks, but are they within reasonable walking distance? I was looking for a store which we can keep going back to over the weekend to stock up on..

There is nowhere within reasonable walking distance I don't think.

There's a shop in Wangford which sells the basics - you can get out of the site via one of the entrance and cross the main road to get to it. It takes about 15 minutes one way on foot.

I wouldn't want to travel on foot from Henham to Wangford at the best of times - especially not with all the festival traffic!

The aforementioned Morrisons' are about 8 miles away.

Basically unless you can go by car - you're stuffed.

A12 is very busy at best of time let alone when Latitude is on AND its summer.

The post office in Blythburgh, which is right next to the pub, does basics - but it is pretty basic. Almost certainly closer than Wangford.

But, tbh, without a car it's a way to anywhere. Stock up on the way in I reckon - if you can get to Halesworth there's a co-op supermarket that's at least as good as the Morrison's in Beccles. Smaller co-op in Southwold - you might be able to get a bus to either of them I think?

ummm, why not just use the supermarket at the campsite village?

There's a tesco in beccles aswell. I suppose if your coming from lowestoft then morrisons is most closest.

I have made a map of local services for Latitude visitors. I'm local.

In my experience - after volunteering at the festival for three years now - too many people come to Latitude without a clue what's around them, they might as well be anywhere, and don't realise they're close to great beaches and other wonderful places. So if you're coming, please have a look at what else the area has to offer.

It's worth getting off site and having a look around.

                            Nice map.

When I read the comment "a few characters known to hang around might be able make a connection to other sorts of festival supplies ;-)" and then noticed that the next thing in the list is the location of the local police station it made me chuckle.
It's quite interesting, you know, the number of biscuits that are named after revolutionaries. You've got your Garibaldi, of course, you've got your Bourbons, then of course you've got your Peek Frean's Trotsky Assortment.

Some scammer actually came on this forum one year promising to send drugs to any one who sent him cash. Genius, really...

Glad you got my little joke. Nice to know some people have read it.

I've done my last stint on the yellow gate, now free to enjoy the festival on Sunday. I must have had a thousand asks for "where's the nearest supermarket" on the gate. Was glad to oblige but amazed how many people asked this at 10pm. This is Suffolk!  ASDA in Lowestoft is 24 hours (except Sundays).

You can easily walk to Wangford Village Stores well away from the A12. Leave the site at red gate 1 and cross the A12 and go along Hill Road east, it turns to go north and then go left at Church Road into the village, about 1.3 miles

Some people walk to Southwold, it's about 3 miles by road but if one of the best walks in the Suffolk coast is to go from Blythburgh to Southwold via Walberswick which is about 8 miles. Have a pint of Adnams in Southwold and get the festival shuttle bus back!

Off topic but Henham should have an area where people can camp for longer than Thursday-Monday so people can enjoy the festival and the countryside together without foregoing one for the other.
